What Happened to Silver in 2013?

Silver suffered its worst year in decades in 2013, falling 35% — more than gold's 28% decline. The "taper tantrum" hit silver hard as both its safe-haven and industrial demand components weakened simultaneously. ETF outflows were massive. The gold/silver ratio spiked from 55 to 65. Retail buying at lower prices provided some support, but silver ended the year near its lows.
