What Happened to Gold in 2013?

Gold suffered its worst year in 32 years in 2013, falling 28%. The key turning point was April 12–15, when gold dropped $200 in two days on fears of Cyprus selling reserves and large ETF outflows. The "taper tantrum" (Bernanke's suggestion of QE tapering) hit gold hard in June. ETF liquidation of over 880 tonnes overwhelmed demand.
