Palladium spiked to $586 in early 2008 on Russian supply fears then crashed to $162 as the financial crisis annihilated auto production (US auto sales fell 35%). The bankruptcy of GM and Chrysler threatened the entire auto catalyst market. Recovery was swift as palladium’s industrial nature meant its crash was overdone.
