About the American Platinum Eagle
The American Platinum Eagle is the only platinum bullion coin issued by the United States Mint, introduced in 1997. At .9995 fine platinum, it is among the purest platinum coins minted by any government and meets IRS purity requirements for Platinum IRA inclusion. The obverse features the Statue of Liberty, while the reverse has changed annually for bullion issues — recent years have featured various interpretations of concepts from the Preamble to the US Constitution. The Platinum Eagle carries $100 face value (the highest face value of any US bullion coin) and is the most prestigious platinum coin available to US investors. Platinum is rarer than gold — annual mine supply is roughly 8 times smaller — and has significant industrial demand (approximately 40% used in catalytic converters). The Platinum Eagle is available in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz sizes for proof editions; bullion issues are primarily 1 oz. A coin for serious precious metals investors seeking exposure beyond gold and silver.
